The First China-ASEAN Youth Rope Skipping Invitational Tournament Kicks Off in Guizhou

                                                   ——Rope as a Medium, Leaping with Youthful Friendship

On July 24, 2025, the "2025 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week Youth Rope Skipping Invitational Tournament," hosted by Guizhou Education University, grandly opened at the Colorful Guizhou Hall, the permanent venue of the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week in Guiyang. Attendees at the opening ceremony included Wang Shuqian, President of Guizhou Education University; Li Wenji, President of the Rope Skipping Committee of the Chinese Ethnic Minorities Sports Association; Kim Sun-Young, Secretary-General of the Gyeonggi Province Rope Skipping Association (South Korea); Chalalee Sriyana, Coach of Universal Rope Skipping (Thailand); Cai Guoxing, Coach of the Macao Rope Skipping Association; and Wu Yingzhi, President of the Kunming Rope Skipping Association. Thirteen teams from countries and regions including China, South Korea, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Macao, comprising 60 coaches and athletes, gathered together to witness this sporting event. The opening ceremony was presided over by Chen Zhenbo, Member of the University Party Committee and Vice President of Guizhou Education University.

At the beginning of the ceremony, attendees watched the promotional video of Guizhou Education University, gaining an in-depth understanding of the university's development history and achievements. Subsequently, Wang Shuqian, representing the host, delivered a welcome speech. She stated that this event is an innovative practice under the framework of the "China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week," aimed at deepening regional people-to-people exchanges through sports. As a long-term promoter and participant of the Cooperation Week, Guizhou Education University has always adhered to the concept of "openness, inclusiveness, cooperation, and win-win," establishing a cooperative network with over 50 ASEAN universities, facilitating 73 signed agreements, and nurturing 142 international students from ASEAN countries. Wang Shuqian introduced the university's achievements in culture, arts, and sports, including pioneering the "China-ASEAN (International) RoboMaster Robotics Challenge," creating the "China-ASEAN Music and Dance Education Forum," and the Star Jump Rope Team's distinctive projects integrating Guizhou's ethnic minority culture. She emphasized that this tournament, themed "ASEAN Leaps with Passion · Youthful Rope Shadows Shine Internationally," is a vivid embodiment of the people-to-people connectivity under the "Belt and Road" initiative and the building of a China-ASEAN community with a shared future.

Ms. Kim Sun-Young, Secretary-General of the Gyeonggi Province Rope Skipping Association (South Korea), and Mr. Li Wenji, President of the Rope Skipping Committee of the Chinese Ethnic Minorities Sports Association, delivered speeches as representatives of international and domestic guests respectively. They highly praised the unique charm of rope skipping that transcends national boundaries, believing it builds a bridge for mutual learning among civilizations.

Athlete representative Yang Zhuoyuan and referee representative Hu Xiaokang solemnly pledged fair competition and impartial judging. During the opening ceremony, the Guizhou Education University Artistic Rope Skipping Team and ASEAN youth jointly presented a brilliant performance, interpreting the vitality and charm of sports with their dynamic movements.

At the conclusion of the opening ceremony, all guests gathered for a group photo, capturing the precious moment of China-ASEAN youth friendship. Under the call of "In the name of sports, keeping the appointment with youth," the rope skipping invitational tournament officially commenced. Young athletes from various countries engaged in fierce competition in the following events, leaping with friendship and building the future together.

This tournament featured five events: 30-second single rope speed jump, 3-minute single rope speed jump, individual freestyle, wheel pattern freestyle, and exhibition competition. After intense competition, Thai athletes excelled in the speed events, sweeping the championships in the 30-second and 3-minute single rope speed jumps for both junior and youth groups; Chinese athletes (including Hong Kong and Macao) won 4 championships in the individual freestyle events; the wheel pattern freestyle and exhibition competition were dominated by Chinese teams, with the Guizhou Education University rope skipping team winning the exhibition competition championship with a high score for their large 8-person routine, demonstrating strong team capability. Additionally, star athletes delivered outstanding performances: Macao athlete Cen Peilin successfully defended his titles in the 30-second and 3-minute single rope speed jumps; Guizhou Education University athlete Lu Darao swept the women's single rope speed jump double crown (30-second and 3-minute) in the group, and also won the individual freestyle and mixed group wheel pattern freestyle championships.

The successful hosting of the first China-ASEAN Youth Rope Skipping Invitational Tournament is not only another successful implementation of an innovative practice under the framework of the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week but also a vivid exemplar of deepening regional people-to-people exchanges through sports. It powerfully demonstrates the profound significance of the Education Cooperation Week as a high-level platform for educational collaboration and people-to-people exchanges between China and ASEAN countries, injecting youthful vitality into promoting people-to-people bonds and building a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future. This tournament provided a stage for young people from various countries to showcase their talent and skills, building a bridge of friendship that transcends national borders and connects hearts. In the future, Guizhou Education University will continue to rely on the solid platform of the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, continuously expand cooperation areas, innovate exchange formats, promote in-depth and substantive people-to-people exchanges and cooperation in multiple fields, and jointly compose a new chapter of China-ASEAN friendly cooperation and win-win development.
